Burren Junction Public School Makes a Splash at State Championships

28/4/2026

Burren Junction Public School has celebrated an outstanding achievement at the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association (NSWPSSA) State Swimming Championships, returning home with a gold medal and the prestigious Peter Dobson Relay Team Trophy.

Competing against schools from across New South Wales at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, the Burren Junction relay team of Angus Harris, John McMahon, Agatha Burke and Tabitha Shearer delivered a remarkable performance in the 4 x 50 metre freestyle relay.

The Peter Dobson Relay Team Trophy is a highly regarded award, specifically recognising small schools with enrolments between 25 and 54 students. Named in honour of long-serving NSWPSSA swimming convener Peter Dobson, the event highlights the strength, determination and talent of regional and rural students competing on the state stage.

For a small school like Burren Junction, this victory is particularly significant. Competing against similar-sized schools from across the state, the team demonstrated not only skill and speed in the water, but also teamwork, dedication and school spirit.

Their gold medal-winning performance is a proud moment for the entire community, showcasing what can be achieved through commitment and opportunity, regardless of school size or location.

The achievement adds to Burren Junction Public School’s strong tradition of participation and success in school sport, and serves as an inspiration to younger students looking to follow in their footsteps.

Congratulations to Angus, John, Agatha and Tabitha on an exceptional result and a well-deserved place in the school’s sporting history.
